Not all shims are created equal, and choosing between custom-cut and precut shims depends on your project’s requirements. Precut shims are ideal for quick installations and standard fittings. They come in fixed dimensions and thicknesses, ready to use straight from the package. In contrast, custom shims—cut from shim sheet metal—offer flexibility for irregular shapes, complex machinery, or one-off applications.

Shim manufacturers in India now offer hybrid services, providing both standard precut sets and sheet metal rolls for custom cutting. When precision is non-negotiable, stainless steel or SS shim plates are often the material of choice. For electrical or lightweight applications, brass shim sheets or aluminum are better suited. Your choice should be driven by the degree of customization, load-bearing needs, and the working environment.
